Come out to play!

Do you remember playing hopscotch, skipping games and hide & seek when you were a child? We want to make these old playground games fashionable again!

This is what happened when we chalked a hopscotch at Barry Island and took a giant skipping rope to Wrexham:

We want to encourage more children to get outside over the summer holidays playing with their friends – these simple games are a great way of getting your children away from screens and playing outside.

Why bring back playground games?

We want to inject the fun and spirit back into simple, imaginative, active play – just like adults of today remember fondly from their youth.

When we asked 1000 adults across Wales which games they missed the most they said hide & seek, skipping and hopscotch.

Two in three adults surveyed also told us they believe children today have fewer of the same play experiences as when they were young. The most common reason is due to concerns that technology is impacting childhood, with over half of adults saying that ‘technology gets in the way’ of play.

How can I get involved?

We want to see what you do to get your children playing outside. Tag us on social media – Facebook, Instagram and Twitter – and use #ProjectPlay so we can share!
