Calling all families to have a Summer of Play!

Following a difficult and uncertain year and a half, it’s time for every child to have plenty of chances to play and have fun. As adults, we need to support our children by giving them opportunities to play every day – at home and outdoors with friends.

This summer, we’re encouraging families and communities to help children enjoy a Summer of Play throughout the entire summer holidays.

We don’t need to spend lots of money or travel miles – we have lots of simple and free play ideas on our website to inspire your children to have a Summer of Play. We can all have everyday adventures at home and out in the local community – from a game of tag, to making mud pies, to a teddy bear’s picnic or building our very own den.

Why play

Playing is good for children’s development and well-being, but more importantly it’s fun! It sparks children’s imaginations and creativity.

Playing is important for children’s health and happiness. It helps children cope with stress and anxiety and helps them to re-connect with their friends. Playing supports children to recover from the effects of the pandemic too – this is more important than ever.
